A West Virginia police chief says an officer shot and wounded a suspect while investigating a report of a stolen car.
Fairmont Police Chief Steve Shine told the Times West Virginian (http://bit.ly/28ZKO13) that officials are investigating why the officer shot at the vehicle Wednesday evening in a restaurant parking lot.
Shine says officers were called to the scene to investigate a report of a stolen car and found the vehicle with two occupants. He says the officer at some point fired at the driver, who was then taken to a hospital.
The newspaper reports West Virginia State Police are investigating. State police did not immediately return a phone call seeking information.
Police did not identify the officer or suspect.
