A Texas man and his girlfriend have been indicted on charges arising from the cyberbullying of the man's ex-girlfriend until her suicide.
A Galveston County grand jury indicted 22-year-old Karinthya Sanchez Romero and 21-year-old Andres Arturo Villagomez (VEE'-yah-goh-mehz). The Galveston couple is accused of actions that investigators say drove 18-year-old Brandy Vela to fatally shoot herself in the chest on Nov. 29 at her family's home in Texas City, about 10 miles northwest of Galveston.
Prosecutor Bill Reed says Romero is charged with stalking and online impersonation, felonies punishable by two to 10 years in prison. Villagomez is charged with unlawful disclosure or promotion of intimate visual material, a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in jail.
Romero is held on bonds totaling $20,000. Villagomez is jailed on $2,500 bond.
