1 dead in Kansas bar shooting, suspect nabbed after manhunt

Kansas law enforcement Thursday arrested a man they said opened fire inside a bar during an NCAA basketball game hours earlier, killing one and injuring two others.

The suspect, who was described as a white male in his 60s, was taken into custody in Missouri, Kansas police said in a statement. Police did not immediately identify the suspect.

Olathe police responded to a report of a shooting at Austin’s Bar and Grille in Olathe at around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday. Three victims were taken to University of Kansas Hospital, but one later died.

One victim was listed in critical condition and the other was in serious condition, according to Fox 4 KC. No further details about the victims were released. Sources told the Kansas City Star that two of victims were of Middle Eastern or Indian descent.

Offices arriving to the bar were confronted by chaos. The suspect had fled the scene when authorities, which started a massive manhunt by police.

Those in and around the bar were trying to find out if any friends or loved ones had been injured in the shooting. One witness told Fox 4 KC that shooting happened after an argument.

"It’s just unbelievable to see something like that happen here. I heard it started off with an argument, then after the argument the dude left, came back and then brought his gun,” Darius Thomas told the station.

Police ask anyone with information about the shooting to call the Olathe Police Department at 913-971-6950 or the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
