Authorities in Florida are investigating after a man was shot by a Florida deputy sheriff in the parking lot of a Wal-Mart store.

Col. Donna Lusczynski with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office told reporters Friday night that the man was armed and refused to drop his weapon when ordered by deputies.

Lusczynski said that deputies were searching for the man because he was alleged to be suicidal.

They found his car in a Wal-Mart parking lot in Brandon and approached when they saw he had a firearm.

Lusczynski said that the deputy who fired at the man has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

The shooting occurred near a car with three children inside but none were injured. The condition of the man who was shot remains unclear.
