TULSA, Okla. – A Tulsa man facing first-degree murder and hate crime charges in the killing of his Lebanese neighbor has been ordered to undergo a mental competency examination.
Online court records show a district judge ordered the evaluation Wednesday for Stanley Majors.
Authorities say Majors fatally shot 37-year-old Khalid Jabara in August after bombarding him with racial insults as part of a feud with Jabara's family that lasted several years.
Majors is also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm and threatening a violent act. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Court records show Majors' case was the 17th since 2008 in which Tulsa County prosecutors have filed a hate crime charge.
Majors' next hearing is scheduled for Jan. 4.
