A male suspect is dead and two customers suffered non-life-threatening injuries during an attempted holdup of a fast-food restaurant in the Houston suburb of Shenandoah.

The incident happened about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday at a Raising Cane's chicken strips restaurant. Witnesses told investigators that a would-be thief entered the restaurant and demanded money at gunpoint when an off-duty police officer working security shot and killed the man — but not before two other people in the restaurant were injured.

No identities have been released.

Shenandoah is 30 miles north of Houston.
