CHICAGO – An Illinois man has been ordered held without bond in the death of a 2-year-old boy whose dismembered remains were found in a Chicago lagoon.
Cook County prosecutors say 41-year-old Kamel Harris of Rockford appeared in court Wednesday. He faces a first-degree murder charge in the death of Kyrian Knox of Rockford. Harris was held on an unrelated charge at a northern Illinois jail when he was arrested Monday night in the boy's death.
Kyrian's remains were found in September 2015 in the Garfield Park lagoon in Chicago. Authorities say blood found in a vehicle connected to Harris matched the boy's DNA. Chicago police said Harris was once a caretaker for the boy.
Police say they believe the lactose-intolerant boy drank milk and was crying before he was killed.
