Former Temple University President David Adamany has died.
The university announced Adamany died Thursday after a short illness, but didn't say where he died. He was 80.
Current President Richard Englert says Adamany demanded the best of everyone, especially himself.
Adamany became Temple's president in August 2000 and retired in June 2006.
He also was a professor of law and political science at Temple, where he taught a course on the U.S. Supreme Court.
Before coming to Temple, he served as president of Wayne State University in Detroit from 1982 to 1997. From 1999 to 2000, he was chief executive officer of the Detroit Public Schools under a state reorganization of the school district.
No funeral service information was available.
