A South Carolina city is firing an officer more than a year after he shot an unarmed teen because it doesn't want to pay him to be on administrative leave any more.
The Seneca Police Department released its paperwork to fire Lt. Mark Tiller on Thursday. The note in Tiller's file says Seneca is a small municipality that must fill his integral position and release him.
Tiller's last day will be Friday.
Tiller shot and killed 19-year-old Zachary Hammond as he tried to drive off during a drug sting in a parking lot in July 2015.
A state prosecutor did not press charges, saying Tiller might have made a bad decision but broke no law. Tiller is white, as was Hammond.
A federal investigation into the shooting continues.
