A man was arrested in central Florida after authorities say he stole an ambulance.

Sanford police spokeswoman Bianca Gillette told the Orlando Sentinel that the ambulance had just delivered a patient to Central Florida Regional Hospital on Tuesday when the man hopped into the driver's seat and took off. A firefighter-EMT who had been in the back of the ambulance jumped out and was not injured.

Authorities said James Sessions, 43, made it to an industrial area about 2 miles away before stopping at the dead end of a street, WESH reported.

The spokeswoman said a bystander saw Sessions and detained him until police arrived moments later and placed him under arrest.

Sessions was charged with grand theft of a vehicle and leaving the scene of a crash, WESH reported.
