A South Carolina police officer is recovering after being shot during a standoff.
Local news outlets report that officer Wayne Pavlischek was shot in the stomach during the standoff Monday night in North Charleston.
North Charleston Police Department Deputy Chief David Cheatle says the incident began after police received a call about a driver who tried to run over a pedestrian. Officials responded to a home where the suspect's car was parked and secured the perimeter.
Police say the suspect pointed a rifle at the officers from the second story of the home and opened fire, wounding Pavlischek.
Pavlischek was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
The unidentified suspect was also taken to the hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds during the standoff.
Officials continue to investigate.
