Authorities in a Connecticut town say a police officer was shot in the leg during a standoff with a suicidal man.

New Milford Lt. Lawrence Ash says police responded to a condo complex around 2:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of a man who said he was going to kill himself.

Ash says the man later came outside and fired a single shot from a handgun, hitting Officer Charles Cochran in the leg. He was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening injury.

The unidentified suspect was taken into custody. New Milford Mayor David Gronbach says it's unclear if the gunshot was accidental or not.

Police say officers evacuated the complex because the shooter said he had set up booby traps inside. The state police bomb squad was at the scene.
