Police in Philadelphia say a 4-year-old girl who died after being shot in the right eye apparently pulled the trigger herself.

Officer Tanya Little says it is "looking like" the gunshot was self-inflicted, though autopsy results are pending. No one has been charged in the case, but police are still investigating how the child got access to the weapon.

Police say the shooting occurred in a second-floor bedroom of a North Philadelphia home at about noon Thursday. Officers arrived to find the mother on the front steps holding the girl.

The child was taken to Hahnemann University Hospital and pronounced dead at about 1 p.m.

The weapon has been recovered.
