Officials say a 58-year-old man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in a Washington woman's 1984 slaying after DNA evidence linked him to the crime.
U.S. Attorney Channing D. Phillips' office says in a news release that a jury convicted Joe Anthony Barber on Friday after a trial in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.
He faces up to life in prison when he's sentenced Sept. 30.
Authorities say Barber was linked to the death of 43-year-old Rachel Cox on Jan. 1, 1984, after DNA found on her body was analyzed in 2013. Barber's genetic profile was in the database because of a 1984 conviction in an unrelated rape case.
Officials say Cox was stabbed 12 times. She was found in her southeast Washington apartment on New Year's Day by her daughter.
