Authorities say a 13-year-old boy has been charged as a juvenile in the fatal shooting of a 14-year-old boy in the yard of a vacant home on Detroit's east side.
Prosecutors say the teenager was charged Wednesday with involuntary manslaughter, careless discharge causing death and using a firearm in commission of a felony in the death of Frederick Austin. Police say Frederick was shot Tuesday night and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators say the teens and three others were playing in a shed behind the home. Authorities say Frederick had a handgun and that the 13-year-old boy picked it up and fired it.
The 13-year-old is expected to have a preliminary hearing Wednesday afternoon.
The Associated Press doesn't typically name juveniles charged with crimes.
