Florida MMA fighter dies from injuries sustained in hit-and-run accident

A mixed martial arts fighter died Wednesday from injuries sustained in a hit-and-run incident in South Florida over the weekend.

Jordan Parsons’ manager Glenn Robinson told the Palm Beach Post that doctors at Delray Medical Center took Parsons off of life support at the request of his family. Parsons had his right leg amputated and was in a coma.

Delray Beach police say Parsons, 25, was struck by a 2012 or 2013 silver Range Rover at the intersection of Federal Highway and Lindell Boulevard Sunday morning.

Police said the vehicle’s driver-side mirror is missing and there is damage to its bumper and headlight.

“The world lost a warrior, a soldier, a friend, a teammate, a son, a brother, a cousin,” Robinson told the Post. “We lost a good person.”

Parsons fought under the Bellator banner and trained with the Blackzilians MMA team in Boca Raton. He was 11-2 in 13 bouts and was set to compete at Bellator 154 on May 14.

“Jordan was an exceptional athlete and a rising star in the sport. But more importantly, he was an exceptional young man,” Bellator President Scott Coker said in a statement. “Jordan was hard-working, dedicated, intelligent, and a pleasure to be around. He represented all the reasons we love this sport. It is a terribly tragic loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and teammates.”

The newspaper reported that Parsons’ family was with him when doctors removed him from life support. Robinson said a large group of people went to see him Sunday.
