An Illinois woman who was randomly shot while traveling on a Wisconsin interstate with her family has been removed from life support.
Tracy Czaczkowski was shot Sunday on Interstate 90/94 in Sauk County and was declared brain-dead Monday. County Coroner Greg Hahn says she was kept on life support until Tuesday night so her organs could be donated.
Authorities say Czaczkowski, her husband and children were headed home to Buffalo Grove, a Chicago suburb, after spending the weekend in Wisconsin Dells when the 44-year-old woman was struck in the neck by gunfire from the driver of an SUV.
Officers stopped the SUV with a spike strip and shot and wounded the 20-year-old suspect. Investigators believe the man also killed a 42-year-old man in West Allis hours before. No charges have been filed.
