A recording shows an Ohio man accused of killing three women and hiding their bodies in garbage bags told police during an interrogation that he strangled two of them during fits of rage.

Prosecutors played the conversation with 38-year-old Michael Madison as his Cleveland jury trial nears the end of testimony.

Madison could face the death penalty if he's convicted on murder charges.

Cleveland.com reports that Madison said on the recording that he was in a drug- and alcohol-fueled haze in the year leading up to his arrest.

He was arrested in July 2013, shortly after the bodies were found near the East Cleveland apartment building where he lived.

In opening statements last month, his defense attorney didn't dispute that Madison killed the women.
