GREENVILLE, S.C. – Authorities say no officers fired at a teen who killed a South Carolina police officer last month and led them on a nearly mile-long chase on foot before killing himself.
Greenville Police Chief Ken Miller held a news conference Monday to release details from the state police report on the March 18 death of officer Allen Jacobs.
Miller says Jacobs and his partner were trying to stop 17-year-old Deontea Mackey because they thought he had a gun illegally.
Miller says Jacobs chased Mackey, who turned after rounding a corner and shot seven times. Jacobs was hit by four bullets.
The chief says Mackey ran for 10 minutes, calling his mother after he was cornered and then killing himself.
Prosecutors say another teen who provided Mackey with the gun will face charges.
