Police have fired at five suspected robbers outside a Houston furniture store, killing two and injuring two more.

Police spokesman John Cannon says five police officers fired their weapons but none was injured in the incident late Thursday.

Authorities say a tactical team had been monitoring the group following a series of robberies earlier in the day.

Cannon says one suspect was taken to a hospital with an undisclosed injury and another was treated by paramedics at the scene then taken into custody. Another suspect who was not hurt is also under arrest.

Cannon says two guns belonging to the suspects have been recovered, but that it isn't clear if the suspects fired any shots.

He says one of the suspects was wearing an ankle monitor.
