A Saudi Arabian man who befriended a Massachusetts girl online by posing as a teen girl himself has been sentenced to 2 ½ years in jail for tricking her into sending him explicit photos that he later gave to her family.

The Salem News (http://bit.ly/24SLmvU ) reports that a judge at Wednesday's sentencing of 21-year-old Abdulrahim Altalhi said he will likely be deported. Altalhi was a student at the University of Evansville in Indiana. He will also have to register as a sex offender.

Altalhi's lawyer blamed his client's actions on a "cultural divide."

Altalhi pleaded guilty to attempted extortion and child enticement, among other charges.

Prosecutors say Altalhi demanded explicit photos from the 15-year-old Danvers girl and sent an image to her family when she refused to meet more of his demands.
