The former president of the Guatemalan soccer federation has been released on $1.5 million bail after pleading not guilty to criminal charges in New York City.

Brayan (BRY'-ahn) Jimenez' appeared in Brooklyn federal court Wednesday, one day after he was extradited to the United States.

Charges against him include racketeering conspiracy, wire fraud and money laundering. They stem from a bribery probe of soccer's governing body that has led to numerous arrests.

After his release Wednesday, Jimenez will remain in Jersey City, New Jersey, with friends until trial. His bail includes electronic monitoring.

His attorney, Justine Harris, said her client was pleased to reunite with his family after a month in custody and looks forward to facing the charges in court.
