IOWA CITY, Iowa – Newly released records say the University of Iowa's public safety director didn't cooperate with officers investigating a hit-and-run drunk-driving accident involving his stepson.
The Associated Press obtained records showing David Visin refused to pull over while driving with his stepson, Sean Crane, shortly after the pair left an Iowa City bar on June 25.
Officers were searching for Crane after his truck hit two cars in a parking lot outside the bar.
Instead of stopping, Visin dropped Crane at a gas station and left before officers arrived. Officers found Crane intoxicated, injured and shirtless.
Visin said Monday he wasn't drinking and "knew nothing" about the accident until an officer called him. He says he didn't stop because he's diabetic and needed to get home for insulin and food.
