A plea deal is being discussed in the case of a Connecticut teenager charged with fatally stabbing a classmate on prom day.

Attorneys said at a hearing Tuesday that an agreement hadn't yet been reached to resolve the case against 18-year-old Christopher Plaskon.

Plaskon is charged with killing 16-year-old Maren Sanchez in the hallway of their Milford high school in April 2014. His family and friends told police Plaskon had been upset that Sanchez had turned down his prom invitation.

Plaskon has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge. His attorneys have indicated they were exploring an insanity defense.

The next hearing is scheduled for March 7. A judge says a trial will be scheduled if an agreement is not reached by then.
