A Connecticut man is expected to plead guilty to a federal hate crime for shooting at a mosque next to his home shortly after the deadly attacks in Paris.
A lawyer for Ted Hakey Jr. says his client will plead guilty Thursday afternoon in federal court in Hartford to damaging religious property.
Authorities say the Baitul Aman Mosque in Meriden was empty and no one was hurt when Hakey opened fire with a rifle shortly after the Nov. 13 attacks in Paris that killed 130 people. Four bullets struck the mosque.
Hakey is free on $400,000 bail. Prosecutors had argued that Hakey was too dangerous to be released on bail. Hakey denied that.
The charge carries up to 20 years in prison.
It's not clear when Hakey will be sentenced.
