NFL star eyed in assault of off-duty cops in Philadelphia

Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy is the focus of an investigation after several off-duty police officers were assaulted at a nightclub in Philadelphia early Sunday morning, according to multiple reports.

Former NFL running back Curtis Brinkley, a Philadelphia native who played for the Chargers and Bears, was also allegedly involved in the incident, CSN Philly reported. McCoy, a four-time Pro Bowler who spent the first six years of his career with the Eagles before he was traded to Buffalo in March, has ties to the Philadelphia area.

At least one camera caught the parties being ejected from the nightclub, but not the brawl itself, according to reports.

The incident began when three off-duty officers purchased four bottles of champagne, according to a police report viewed by CSN, and when one of the officers “moved to another location with his bottle” former University of Pittsburgh football player Tamarcus Porter “approached him and tried to pull the bottle from his hand.”

At that point, “an argument ensued as to the ownership of the bottle” and McCoy, Brinkley and another man “assisted Porter,” according to the report. During the fight, the officer with the bottle was knocked to the ground and “punched, kicked and stomped about his body and head multiple times.”

CSN reported two officers suffered broken ribs. The officer who initially had the bottle was treated for a cut near his right eye, a broken nose, broken ribs and a sprained thumb, according to CSN. Another officer received stitches over his left eye and treatment for a possible skull fracture.

No arrests have been made, but FOX29 reports the incident is being investigated as an aggravated assault. It’s unclear if the officers identified themselves as police at any point.

"We are aware of the reports regarding LeSean McCoy and are in the process of gathering more information," the Bills said in a statement. "We will not provide any further comment at this time."
