Barney's New York has responded to a complaint from a mother who says she was not allowed to breastfeed her daughter in the store dressing room.
A statement from Barney's New York says the company is reviewing its "lactation policy and training protocol for all locations to ensure that we are adhering to best practices," KSAZ-TV reported (http://bit.ly/1nUmW4v).
Andrea O'Dowd says she was at Scottsdale Fashion Square on Thursday and didn't want to feed her 4-month-old daughter Serena while sitting on a toilet seat.
"Would you sit on a toilet and eat your food? I don't want to sit on a toilet and feed her, and she shouldn't be exposed to that," she said.
Despite offering to check her stroller beforehand, O'Dowd says a store employee cited loss prevention concerns and would not allow her to use the dressing room.
"I felt shamed, shamed that I needed to feed my daughter," she said.
"I was choking back tears," she said.
Arizona law allows mothers to breastfeed children in public or private places where they would otherwise be allowed.
"I honestly just wanted justice for this situation, because I couldn't believe it," O'Dowd said. "I'm glad I am speaking up for it."
