Authorities say they are searching the streets of Memphis for a suspect who was involved in a police chase that led to the fatal shooting of a man who fired at officers.
The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says officers in two Memphis police cruisers tried to stop a Chevrolet Impala for a routine traffic violation Wednesday, but the driver of the car drove away.
Authorities say the men crashed their car and tried to run away. Bureau spokesman Josh DeVine says an officer from each police vehicle gave chase on foot, and one of the men in the Impala began shooting at the officers.
DeVine says the officers returned fire, shooting the suspect, who was killed. The second man eluded officers, and the search for him continued Thursday.
