Police in Gastonia say a man who fired a shot at police trying to arrest him at a shopping mall fell 25 feet to the ground after jumping over a retaining wall.

Authorities identified the suspect Monday evening as 19-year-old Jamoral Lee Hill.

Sgt. Keith McCabe said officers went to Eastridge Mall after someone reported seeing their stolen car there. Investigators say officers spotted the suspect, who ran and then fired a shot at officers after leaving the building. Police say the officers didn't fire back before the suspect jumped over the retaining wall.

Police obtained warrants on Lee for multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder. A statement said Lee is in serious condition at Caromont Regional Medical Center and will be served upon his release.
