NEW ORLEANS – The Latest on the shooting of a deputy in New Orleans (all times local):
9:50 a.m.
New Orleans police say a sheriff's deputy working as part of a federal task force serving a warrant in the Lower 9th Ward section is in critical condition after being shot five times.
Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand said Tuesday that Deputy Steve Arnold underwent surgery for two hours.
Normand says that one of the wounds was in the neck and that it will be 48 hours before it's clear whether he has neurological damage.
Police spokesman Garry Flot says the deputy was working with the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Deputy Chief Paul M. Noel told reporters at the scene that when law enforcement entered a house to serve a warrant, one person inside opened fire shortly after 6 a.m.
Flot says the suspect was taken into custody and two other men who were inside are being questioned.

New Orleans police say a law enforcement officer has been shot and is being treated at a hospital.
Police spokeswoman Hilal Williams says the officer was shot in the Lower 9th Ward section of the city. The neighborhood saw some of the most devastation in the city from Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Police did not give further details about the shooting or about any suspect.
