Army secretary nominee worried about cuts to Army's size

WASHINGTON – The Obama administration's nominee to be the Army's top civilian official is worried about plans to reduce the Army's size to 450,000 active-duty troops.

Eric Fanning tells the Senate Armed Services Committee that improving the Army's state of readiness is challenging because of the threat posed by Islamic State militants and other demands.

Fanning says he worries about the size of the Army today.

The committee is considering Fanning's nomination to the Army secretary shortly after he stepped down as the acting Army secretary.
