A woman has pleaded guilty to charges she arranged bribes meant to buy off U.N. official John Ashe.
Heidi Piao entered the plea Thursday in federal court in Manhattan as part of a cooperation agreement.
Prosecutors say the 52-year-old Piao and others bribed Ashe to use his position to promote their business interests in Antigua and elsewhere.
Ashe is a former ambassador to the United Nations from Antigua and Barbuda. He has denied charges he took more than $1 million in bribes from sources in China.
