LINDA, Calif. – Authorities are weighing whether to seek criminal charges against a woman whose pit bull dogs mauled to death her 9-year-old brother in Northern California over the weekend.
The woman's attorney said Tuesday that his client is emotionally devastated by the Sunday morning attack in her small trailer in Yuba County, but he says no crime occurred.
Attorney Roberto Marquez says 24-year-old Alexandria Griffin-Heady had overnight visitation rights with her half-brother, who was in Sacramento County's foster care system. Marquez says Griffin-Heady raised the three pit bulls and that they appeared tame and friendly. Marquez said the boy loved the dogs and encountered no problems with them since he began staying weekends with Griffin-Heady in October. Marquez said Griffin-Heady hoped to adopt the boy.
The Yuba County Sheriff's Department said it's investigating.
