Police say one person was killed and a police officer injured in the ankle when shooting broke out as police tried to serve an arrest warrant at a Charlotte home.

A statement from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department says that when officers tried to serve the warrant Sunday evening several people began shooting at them.

Police fired back and hit one person, who was later pronounced dead, the Charlotte Observer (http://bit.ly/1PFsk3O ) said.

The names of the person killed and the injured officer have not been released.
