A person has died after being shot by a Suffolk, Virginia, police officer.
Suffolk police said in a news release the incident took place Monday evening. Officials had received calls regarding a person chasing people in the Lakeside neighborhood while brandishing a gun.
When the first officer arrived, he encountered the person believed to be the suspect. A second officer arrived shortly thereafter. After the encounter, the first officer shot the suspect, who was then brought to a hospital for treatment. The suspect later died at the hospital.
Suffolk police say they're conducting a criminal and internal investigation. The officers involved have been placed on administrative leave.
Police have not released additional information.
