The group responsible for coming up with a plan to display the final Confederate flag that flew over South Carolina's Statehouse has cut the display's estimated cost by a third at a sparsely attended meeting.
The State newspaper reported (http://bit.ly/22pPnGT) that the Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum Commission on Tuesday reduced the estimated cost of the display from $5.3 million to $3.6 million.
A number of lawmakers had criticized the panel's initial $5.3 million proposal as too expensive.
Seven reporters attended the meeting for the initial proposal, but only one appeared to attend Tuesday's meeting. The other news outlets say they received no notice of the meeting.
Relic Room director Allen Roberson says notice of the meeting was posted on the museum's website and outside its door.
