The Texas man who "wanted to do something different" for his proposal and decided to stop on one of Houston's busiest interstates to pop the question, will reportedly be charged with obstruction of highway.
If convicted, 24-year-old Vidal Valladares will face a maximum six months in jail and a $2,000 fine, The Houston Chronicle reported.
The report pointed out that video of the proposal was posted on Instagram Sunday night. His friends can be seen obstructing several lanes of traffic after he reportedly told his girlfriend to get out of the car. She recalled the event on Facebook: "Then I saw all my family and friends with cameras and I looked where Vidal was, and he was down on one knee."
A video of the Sunday stunt posted online shows Valladares on one knee in the middle of Interstate 45, proposing to Michelle Wycoff amid a cacophony of angry shouts and truck and car horns. (She said yes.)
Texas Department of Transportation apparently failed to see the romance and called the stunt illegal and dangerous.
The prospective groom reportedly estimated that the entire scene lasted 35 seconds. He posted on Facebook: "When you shut down one of the biggest and busiest freeways in the entire country (I-45) and you ask your girl if she wants to marry u, That moment is priceless love u #shesaidyes."
