At least two women were hurt, one with life-threatening injuries, after their car fell some 40 feet off a parking garage at a San Diego mall Sunday crashing to the ground below, local media report.

The car apparently smashed through a third-floor guard rail at the garage next to the Fashion Valley Mall, according to Fox 5. Images from the scene showed the car upside-down on the roadway, with one of its doors broken off.

The cause of the wreck was unclear. Paramedics rushed at least one of the women to the hospital.

Both victims were conscious and breathing at the scene, investigators tell the news station.
