Survivor of suburban Atlanta murder-suicide that killed his daughter, her 2 children, has died

The lone survivor of a July murder-suicide that killed four family members inside a suburban Atlanta home died Friday. Jerry David Manning was 75.

Sgt. Josh Watson of the Henry County Sheriff's Office told the Associated Press Saturday that Manning's cause of death will be determined by a coroner. ( ) reports that on July 22, Manning was shot multiple times inside the home he shared with his daughter Rebecca Manning, her husband, Matthew Kyle Fields, and Rebecca's two sons, Jacob Smith, 9, and Jared Smith, 8.

According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, after a fight with his wife, Fields had left the home the night before. He returned the next morning and shot everyone in the home, including the brothers as they slept. They died at the scene. Rebecca Manning, 37, died later at a hospital.

Jerry Manning was critically injured and underwent emergency surgery the same day. According to his nephew, Justin Lankford, Manning was never able to return home, but had improved in recent weeks.
