NEW YORK – Authorities say a 22-year-old pregnant woman has been stabbed to death and a local lawmaker says the baby is alive and has been hospitalized.
Police were called to Bronx apartment on Friday afternoon after a call of an argument that turned physical. Investigators say the victim was apparently stabbed in the stomach multiple times.
She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead. Investigators were trying to determine how far along she was in her pregnancy. A 22-year-old suspect was taken into custody. Charges are pending.
Authorities were investigating what touched off the bloody confrontation. It's not clear whether the victim and suspect knew one another.
New York City Councilman Andy King said the baby survived.
Police have not released the identification of the victim pending family notification.
