A father who was found with stab wounds in an SUV where his three sons sat dead in the back has been charged with murder.

Los Angeles County prosecutors say 33-year-old Luis Fuentes, of Los Angeles, was charged Tuesday with three counts of murder.

The district attorney's office also alleges special circumstances including multiple murders that would make Fuentes eligible for the death penalty, but prosecutors haven't decided whether to seek capital punishment.

Fuentes is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday. It's not clear whether he has hired an attorney who could be reached for comment.

Police say Fuentes used a knife to kill his young sons Sept. 9 as they sat in the back seat of the SUV in South Los Angeles, then turned the knife on himself.
