The mother of the unarmed black man shot to death by a white North Carolina police officer is for the first time visiting the site where her son died.

Georgia Ferrell and other family members laid flowers at the site on the second anniversary of the shooting Monday. Jonathan Ferrell was shot in a ditch near a community swimming pool in an east Charlotte neighborhood. The mother said she felt like her son was being killed all over again.

Jonathan Ferrell was shot 10 times by Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer Randall Kerrick on Sept. 14, 2013, as Ferrell sought help after a car crash. Kerrick says Ferrell ran at him, knocked him down and tried to take his gun.

Prosecutors say Kerrick overreacted. Authorities dropped a voluntary manslaughter charge against Kerrick after a jury deadlocked last month.
