Officer shoots, wounds man after high-speed car chase in eastern Alabama, police say

Authorities say a police officer in the eastern Alabama town of Phenix City shot and wounded a man after a car chase.

Phenix City police Chief Raymond Smith says the State Bureau of Investigations has taken over the probe of Monday morning's shooting.

WRBL-TV reports (http://bit.ly/1Pvp2PV) that the shooting happened after a high-speed car chase. The station reports that the wounded man was taken to a hospital, and there were no reports of any injuries to the officer.

The names and races of the officer and the man who was shot were not immediately available.

Phenix City is just across the Chattahoochee River from Columbus, Georgia.
