Honolulu police say two men fell from a University of Hawaii dormitory and that one of them died while trying to pull the other one from a ledge.

Police say the 24-year-old man who fell to his death was trying to bring inside a distraught 19-year-old on the ledge early Sunday. They were taken to the hospital in critical condition.

The medical examiner's office says an autopsy is scheduled Monday for the 24-year-old.

Police didn't immediately say how far they fell.

University spokesman Dan Meisenzahl (MY'-sen-zall) says neither of the men are students.

He says there were about 20 students living in the two towers that make up the Hale (HAH'-lay) Wainani (why-nah-nee) dorm. He says one of the students had people over.

The towers are 13- and 14-stories tall.
