A Native American tribe is voting on a plan to turn an unfinished community center into a gambling hall on the famed resort island of Martha's Vineyard.
The Aquinnah Wampanoag want to offer electronic, bingo-style games but not casino table games like blackjack or roulette.
There are 1,052 tribe members eligible to cast ballots in Sunday's vote, which runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The vote comes as the state, town and a local community association sued to block the project. A federal judge heard arguments in the case Wednesday and will rule later.
Tensions between the town and the federally-recognized tribe escalated earlier this summer when the tribe began doing work on the site.
The town successfully won a court order temporarily halting the work until the lawsuit is decided.
