A white police officer accused in the shooting death of an unarmed black man nearly two years ago is returning to the witness stand to elaborate on his version of events.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Officer Randall Kerrick is expected to be on the witness stand Friday morning, when his attorneys will resume their questioning.

Kerrick fought to maintain his composure Thursday when he was asked about what happened on the night he shot and killed Jonathan Ferrell. He told the jury he thought he was going to die and worried that his gun wasn't working because even after hitting Ferrell, Ferrell kept coming at the officer.

Kerrick also testified that he warned Ferrell at least twice to stop and get on the ground before he shot him.
