An attorney for a former South Carolina policeman charged in a motorist's slaying wants prosecutors to produce the clothing worn by both the officer and victim and allow the defense team to inspect those items in the Charleston area.

Cameron Blazer filed the motion Monday. She represents Michael Slager, the former North Charleston police officer indicted on a murder charge in the April 4 shooting of 50-year-old Walter Scott. Slager is white, and Scott was black.

The motion says prosecutors are letting the items be inspected only in Columbia, about 120 miles away. The motion says that if that were required in every South Carolina case, justice would grind to a halt.

State police referred questions to a prosecutor, who didn't immediately return a message.
