Authorities say Indianapolis police fatally shot a 15-year-old boy who officers say evaded a traffic stop and accelerated toward them in a car that matched the description of one that had been reported carjacked.

Police said the driver refused officers' commands to exit the car Sunday night, and they fired when he accelerated. Police say the driver was holding a firearm when he came out of the car and collapsed.

Marion County coroner's office manager Marchele Hall identified the slain driver as 15-year-old Andre Green.

Indianapolis police say they tried to pull the car over and it tried to make a U-turn, striking the side of the police car. Police Lt. Rick Riddle says police recovered a firearm but had no details about it, including whether it was loaded.
