Prosecutors and defense attorneys are both expected to intensify their focus on dozens of crime-scene photos and other evidence introduced in the trial of a white North Carolina police officer who fatally shot a black man.
Officer Randall Kerrick is charged with voluntary manslaughter in the death of Jonathan Ferrell, who was killed early on the morning of Sept. 14, 2013, while seeking help after a car crash.
The photos from the scene show Jonathan Ferrell's body, shell casings and a Taser that had been fired. The photos from the crash show Ferrell's shoes and cellphone on the floorboard as well as a pocketknife and the cap to a beer bottle.
Prosecutors say Kerrick overacted when he shot Ferrell. The officer's lawyers say he feared for his life because Ferrell attacked him without warning.
