HELENA, Mont. – Authorities in Montana's Glacier National Park are evacuating another campground because of a wildfire that has also forced the closure of a popular roadway into the park.
Officials say they do not yet have new estimates on how many acres have burned in the fire that started Tuesday. The fire had burned between 800 and 1,000 acres as of Tuesday night, forcing park officials to evacuate the Rising Sun Motor Inn and a nearby campground. A second campground was being evacuated Wednesday morning.
National Park Service officials said Wednesday morning that the entire eastern side of Going-to-the-Sun Road remains closed from the St. Mary's park entrance to 3 miles west of Logan Pass at the Big Bend pullout.
Helena National Forest officials say a separate wildfire that has burned 1,000 acres saw little growth overnight. A portion of U.S. Highway 12 remains closed.
